You win nothing on increasing the sorting speed if the machine is faster than you are. In such cases it can be better to reduce the speed. If, however, you have to wait for the machine you should increase the speed.

Barcode types
Short barcode type is optimized for barcodes that do no bleed off the edge.

Original barcodes bleed off the cards edges.

Large indices is recommended when you have jumbo indexes.

Barcode recognition
You can use Fast if the sorting speed is high and you find that the sorting is too slow for you, Elaborate is recommended if the cards are worn and/or tatty.
